Description
Sulham Woodmeadows is a large established habitat bank close to Reading, West Berkshire. Situated within 3 NCA's, Chilterns, Thames Valley and Thames Basin Heaths, we are able to supply units across a wide area. A section 106 agreement is in place with the local authority. It is a rich mosaic of open wooded and grassland habitat, managed by grazing, that increases biodiversity and is sympathetic to the landscape. The site is accessible to local people via public footpaths and new permissive routes, significantly contributing to the community. The fields were former arable on low yielding soils. Crops have been replaced with a carefully thought through design that considers wider landscape features and historical boundaries. It comprises of a mix of areas including new grassland, wildflower meadows, broadleaved woodland, scrub, parkland/woodmeadow, walnut orchard, hazel coppice and 6km of new hedgerows. Works began in 2023 and the Sulham Estate has aimed to achieve a 'gold standard' in design and implementation of BNG in a landscape scale project. The scheme spans over 2.5km of land between Reading and Pangbourne connecting existing pockets of ancient and replanted woodland. Over 80ha of species rich grassland and wildflower meadows have been established and 56,000 trees planted to extend and compliment the existing woodlands and create areas of meadow interspersed with trees. We supply a wide range of units and welcome visitors to the site to see the works.
