Overview
Description
This high-altitude 55 hectare site is adjacent to a Site of Special Scientific Interest on the edge of the moors. Existing levels of biodiversity are poor, due to overgrazing in the past. Existing habitats will be enhanced, along with new habitats, and biodiversity will be improved with the delivery of the following: Improving poor grassland will provide a significant bi-diversity boost whilst the introduction of more plant species will provide greater resources for invertebrate and other animal populations. The existing fen area will be increased to improve connectivity for wildlife and creates more ecological niches for wading birds and other wildlife. Ponds will be added next to areas of the lowland fen to aid species diversity provide a habitat for aquatic species all year round. Gorse scrub is to be added to increase the habitat helping a larger range of species overall. In particular, it is an excellent source of nutrients for butterflies, moths and other insects. Grassy field with bare trees and flying birds near a high-altitude, biodiversity restoration site next to a moor A permissive access route will be created through the site delivering social benefits to the local community.
