Description
Cledford Lagoons Habitat bank is located off Cledford Lane adjacent to the Trent and Mersey Canal in the heart of Middlewich. the habitat bank is being delivered in partnership with Tata Chemicals ( Europe) Ltd. this former industrial wasteland dating back to 1896 supported the adjacent salt works and comprises of a series of settlement beds for wastes derived from the production of soda ash and salt purification. GEDG are currently capping the site to enable the creation of the nature reserve. the site is a designated local wildlife site providing habitat for amphibians, reptiles, bats and nesting birds. the GEDG habitat management plan will enhance the biodiversity value of the site. The project will create 87.74 Open Mosaic Habitat Units- GEDG are the only UK provider of OMH units. 4.20 Wet Woodland Units 41.2 Neutral grassland Units 22.1 Mixed Scrub Units 26.09 Broadleaved woodland Units 2.6 Pond Units 6.26 Watercourse( ditches) A core element of the project is the unique creation of new Open Mosaic Units considered to be the first of it kind in England facilitating brownfield developments.
