Description
Walmersley Habitat Bank Overview The first site at Bury spans the South Pennines and Manchester Pennine Fringe, and will improve heavily-grazed poor quality grassland and degraded boundaries to create a beautiful mosaic habitat of native hedgerows, ponds, scrub and meadows. We have two waterways across the site and are progressing with MoRPH survey to review opportunities. This habitat bank is secured and awaiting registration with our partner body We will use carefully stocked and rotated large herbivore and regenerative impacts to create a true and expansive habitat over 125 acres, as part of the larger estate masterplan Our Vision for the Site Walmersley Habitat Bank will be an appealing new estate, demonstrating how degraded land can be restored into a well-managed biodiverse landscape asset Formerly degraded agricultural land will be restored through a combination of native woodland establishment, species-rich meadow creation, reinstated hedgerows and the re-naturalisation of watercourses. These habitats will be configured as a connected mosaic, strengthening ecological networks and enabling biodiversity to thrive across woodland, wetland and grassland environments. The scheme will incorporate carefully managed grazing through the introduction of suitable herbivores and omnivores, supporting natural processes and regenerative land management. The approach allows nature to lead recovery, with intervention applied where necessary to guide long-term ecological function and resilience. Delivery will be underpinned by robust, evidence-based methodologies. Comprehensive baseline surveys, alongside detailed habitat management and monitoring strategies, will ensure transparency and accountability. Ongoing ecological assessment will demonstrate measurable biodiversity uplift, with the project generating high-integrity Biodiversity Net Gain units and broader natural capital credits aligned with regional and national recovery objectives. Walmersley Habitat Bank forms the last part of a wider masterplan vision which has provided estate regeneration services to convert 5nr. barns into rental dwellings, extend and refurbish farmhouses for sale and build the site owners a new house along with another barn conversion dwelling, as well as site infrastructure, roads, drainage and services. The development once regenerated creates a beautiful place to live amongst a regenerated natural landscape
