Description
The site consists of 16.29ha of former arable land and unmanaged plantations and is suitable for high quality offsite mitigation to satisfy the requisite BNG planning conditions. The land has been in the owner's family since 1966 and was intensively farmed for 60 years until December 2023. The owner lives directly adjacent to the site and will be managing it himself as part of a wider plan to improve the surrounding landscape. The scheme has been designed with the help of local ecologists and national bodies to create a mosaic of habitats and corridors into neighbouring estates. There are both very high distinctiveness and medium distinctiveness habitats in the scheme, consisting of Lowland Meadows, Other Neutral Grassland, Mixed Scrub, Woodlands (both enhanced and created) and Hedgerows. A Habitat Monitoring and Maintenance Plan has been drawn up by the ecology team, and the formerly arable fields were prepared and drilled in Autumn 2025 to establish the grasslands. The units are on the national register and the legal framework has been drawn up to allow options, allocations and purchases to take place immediately and directly from the owner.
